Marketing Collateral Meaning and Ideas

Marketing collateral can be defined as your marketing assets.

These can be be traditional marketing collateral assets or digital marketing collateral assets.

What are some of the best and most effective types of Marketing Collateral

There are so many different types of marketing collateral available these days. Your marketing collateral should include a lot more than your business card, letterhead and brochure.

With digital marketing, this opens up a range of digital media to be incorporated into your strategic marketing goals.

Targeting your audience and customers

It is important to identify your target customers and get a feel for what their media consumption and habits would be.

If for example your target audience is teenagers, then utilising social media would be an effective marketing strategy. If your target customers were retired people that enjoyed gardening, then you should be more focused on using traditional marketing collateral in your marketing strategy.

Lets look at a few examples of different marketing collaterals:

Logo

Your logo and overall brand identity is your most important asset to your marketing collateral collection. Your logo should reflect your brand identity. Effective logos are simple, with few elements. They are a visual representation of your business.

Logos are known to be very clever and are often designed with hidden meanings and clever play with type. Working together with a graphic designer to create a logo that represents your brand and business goals and identity would be a great start to your marketing materials.

Business Cards

Business cards are great in the fact that they are small, they contain all of your business contact details so a customer can follow up or make contact at their convenience. Another great thing about business cards is that most people have a specially made place to keep them, they can easily pop them into their wallet where they will probably stay for a good little while.

Business cards would be an effective marketing collateral asset for businesses that do a lot of meeting in person with potential clients or customers.

Newsletters

Newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with your customers. It’s a great idea to build up your email list so as you can make sure your supporters are notified of any upcoming specials, promotions or changes to your business. It’s important to make sure your newsletters are informative and offer your customer some sort of reward, whether that’s a feel-good article or a coupon.

Product Catalogue

Product guides or lookbooks are designed to show off your current product line or services. You can have both digital and print versions of your product catalogue.

These booklets are informative and give product descriptions of your current range.

Testimonials

Testimonials and reviews give your business or brand a trust, this is a customer to customer interaction. Testimonials give confidence to your potential customers. They can listen to, read or watch a short video clip about previous customers experience. Your potential customer would then have expectations of a similar experience when purchasing from you or using your service.

Testimonials are often used for businesses that have a personal user experience, such as the hospitality industrys.

Choose a couple of stand out reviews you have recieved that you can share on your website.

Social Media

Social media has a huge reach for potential customers. Your social media marketing collateral would include a range of assets to post, these could include, branded images, live video, posts about upcoming promotions or latest product range.
