Decorative Layers and Intended Symbolism

I love the art style of Art Nouveau as it suits my graphic tendencies.  I can get lost in the act of drawing gorgeous decorative imagery and creating different layers that lend a side story to the hero image. It comes together sort of like a collage of ideas. I keep the linework clean and simple to accentuate the form. I love to apply heavy and solid black as it adds more depth and emotion to the final piece of art.

I also love to play with symbolism. This style lends well to using symbols that can have a direct or indirect meaning. This helps to create a deeper story within the art.

Creating contemporary art using an old style is always quite fun, you take what you like from it and create something new. My influences are from both art research and reference but also my gathering of inspiration from being a part of life right now.

I am planning on making more of these smaller artworks as I think they would look great as greeting cards, playing cards, and tarot cards.
